Workshop «Quixotic Disciplines», October 31, 2015

Quixotic DisciplinesThe four-hundredth birthday of the second part of Don Quixote is a fantastic opportunity to examine the politics of the sequel and its effects on disciplines including those that first led don Quijote to become an errant knight.

How does reading Don Quixote (something that don Quixote himself does) challenge the order of disciplines, the world of academic production, and the industries of knowledge? How can we join don Quixote in reimagining the order of disciplines, in particular the humanities and the social sciences? 1 How does literature think? The Segunda Parte del Ingenioso Caballero don Quijote de la Mancha, published by Juan de la Cuesta in 1615, will be the foundation to address these questions.

In the context of a semester-long seminar on the history of the book, the history of reading, and the history of the disciplines conducted by Jesús Rodríguez-Velasco, the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures will hold a MIME one-day workshop on the subject of “Quixotic Disciplines” on October 31, 2015.2

In this workshop we will discuss pre-circulated papers and research projects. There will be no keynote address.

We will  receive abstracts no longer than 300 words until June 1, 2015. Acceptance letters will be sent by June 15, and we will  receive papers until October 1. Papers received after October 1 will not be included in the discussion.
