National Cervantes Symposium 2014
New Currents in Cervantes Studies
In the tradition of the regional Cervantes symposia held every year in California, Florida, the Midwest (Chicago) and Texas, the Cervantes Society of America in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Chicago will sponsor the first national meeting to be held on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago April 24-26, 2014.
We are pleased to announce that the keynote speaker for the event will be the distinguished Cervantes biographer and scholar Jean Canavaggio, Professor Emeritus in Hispanic Literatures at the University of Paris X-Nanterre. His talk is titled: LAS AVENTURAS DE DON QUIJOTE EN LA FRANCIA DEL GRAN SIGLO: ALGUNOS HITOS EN LA RECEPCIÓN DE UNA FIGURA DE RISA.
Participants of the regional symposia and members of the Cervantes Society of America are encouraged to propose abstracts for papers that explore new currents in or rethink existing approaches to the study of Cervantes, his texts, and his context. The organizing committee expects proposals for work that has not been previously published or otherwise widely disseminated. Proposals may be presented in English or Spanish; abstracts should not exceed 200 words and papers will be strictly limited to twenty minutes. The committee will also accept proposals for roundtables with four participants, not to exceed one hour. Roundtable proposers should send the names of all participants and an abstract describing the discussion topic. In order to facilitate an informed and lively exchange of ideas amongst participants, the symposium will be limited to single sessions on all three days.
Deadline for submission of abstract: November 1, 2013.
Abstracts should be sent with the name of the presenter or roundtable participants, professional standing, institutional affiliation, and title of the paper or roundtable topic to the conference organizers, Prof. Rosilie Hernández (rosieher@uic.edu<mailto:rosieher@uic.edu>) and Prof. Adrienne Martín (almartin@ucdavis.edu<mailto:almartin@ucdavis.edu>) with the subject heading CERVANTES SYMPOSIUM 2014 ABSTRACT.
In order to present at the Symposium, participants must be or become members of the Cervantes Society of America.
